Katsushika Hokusai(1760-1849)was a ukiyo-e painter and print maker, well known as the printer of an internationally recognized print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
It is in the woodblock print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji created between 1826 and 1833.
The series supposed to be printed 36 as it’s called; however, due to the popularity 10 more (called “ura-Fuji”) were released.
Use of landscape perspective and Prussian blue are the characteristics of the prints.
His works influenced on the world famous artists and musicians including Van Gogh, Whistler, and Debussy.
