“Para Para Manga” Flipbooks Exhibited in Cardiff

In the spring of this year, I reported a “Para Para Manga (Flipbook) Exhibition” held in Tokyo. Last month, a part of the exhibition exported to Wales and entertained the Welsh people.

The flipbooks were exhibited at Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival 2010 held at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff. According to the official website “The event [included] screenings of Japanese animations from mainstream to independent, workshops for children and Barry Purves masterclass.”

Including 3D and scented ones, there were 26 flipbooks by 21 artists exhibited on a round table in Chapter Arts Centre. From children to adults, many visitors flipped and enjoyed the works.

If you are interested to see the works in movies, please go to the past article “The Wonderful World of Para Para Manga -Flipbook.”

At the festival, they put “Ponyo” and Japanese short films on the screen. For their raffle prize, they offered some copies of the flipbooks to the winners. How exciting!

By the way, kotatsu from “Kotatsu Festival” means Japanese heater table with futon, around which family members (and pets) sit, watch TV, and have relaxed time. Just like kotatsu, the festival seemed to offer comfort time to the visitors.
